Rare Breeds

This year the Rare Breeds Pavilion is put together by the new Severn and Wye Support Group of RBST, whose members cover Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

We are very fortunate to have such a diverse and wonderful collection of rare breed farming stock at our disposal, this year the breeds include Gloucester cattle, Gloucester Old Spot pigs, Cotswold Sheep, Traditional Herefords, Highland cattle, Longhorn bull, Tamworth Pigs, Dexter cattle, Golden Gurnsey goats and Bagot goats. A selection of sheep breeds include Borerays, Herdwicks, Hill Radnor, Dorset Horn, Southdowns, Llanwen, Manx Loaghtan, Whitefaced Woodland and Wiltshire Horn.

On both days there will be parades of these breeds in the Countryside Arena with a commentator, our members are very proud of their animals and are always willing to show them off to the public wherever possible.

New this year is the seperate Poultry Pavilion where a collection of native and rare breeds are displayed in a more natural setting for the public to enjoy.  There will also be demonstrations of sheep shearing using vintage Lister shearing machines in the Countryside Arena and spinning displays will be on show in the pavilion.  Our members will be on hand to answer any questions about the breeds on display in the pavilion.
